This year's master classes were held at Colne Valley Railway.

Lester Redding kindly gave up his time to mentor two small groups of members, on two different Sundays, at this well- known Steam Railway attraction

The groups spent many hours filming the steam engine and carriages as the train travelled up and down the 2 miles of track. Later everybody had the opportunity to travel on the train and film the view from inside and outside the carriages

Lester was even able to get permission for people to get on to the track to get some ground level shots of the wheels and drive rods

After the group has examined and sorted their footage, their should be enough material to make an intersting 3 minute film. The members efforts can be seen when they show them to the rest of the club on 21st October.

The film was the clear winner with the judges praising the wide range of well exposed shots telling a story with a strong punchline. There was strong support for the competion with 10 entries.

Earlier in the season Stuart Rumens gave his forthright views on filmmaking including an impromptu quiz. He entertained the club by showing a preview of major production that he is involved with about the Sue Ryder Foundation.

Club member Chris Taylor found himself in the news in Septemberr following renewed interest in Southend Airport. He uploaded old cine footage of the airport to Youtube. and found it was very popular.  He subsequently put it on to a DVD called "Southend Airport -  The Past on Screen" Read the article here

The Dick and Dave Digital Show was a terrific exhibition of the art of making AV films. Dave Wilcox and Dave Williams are both superb photographers. and on the night they alternated the showing of their films. As the prsenters have different interests and appoaches to their subject matter, this created a powerful dynamic with emotions  fluctuating from film to film. For example a film about Brian Laws was followed by an AV inpicturesque Scotland was followed by one about tattoos.
