South Essex Film Makers
Once upon a time
A number of people wanted to watch cine films, they hired a hall in Hawkwell and with a large projector they were all set to watch Cine Films on a big screen. It was not long before the club had evolved into the Westcliff Cine and 35mm Club and members were making their own cine films using their creativity and ingenuity to compensate for the limited, affordable technology at the time.
The video age
And then along came video camcorders. Now there was no wait in the post for films to be returned after processing. Editing could be done by linking 2 video cassette recorders and gradually the camcorders themselves became more portable.
Today, there are no new camcorders that use tape as a storage medium. Solid state memory plays back instantly, HD gives superb playback quality and an experienced film maker needs to be multi-talented, as comfortable as manually seeting an exposure as animating titles on a portable device.
